Float rods are designed for light tackle, easy casting, easy striking and control of the end tackle.  The longer the rod, the easier it is to control the tackle, but this may mean the rod is that bit heavier.  Float rods designed today though are much lighter than float rods years ago that were made of split cane, or fibre glass.  Most rods today are made from Carbon Fibre which have all round qualities of lightness, strength, power and flexibility.  This means rods can be made longer and stronger to cope with most float fishing situations.

Types of Float Rod

There are a number of different types of Float rods available.  Some are designed for general purpose float fishing, others are designed for specialist areas such as Match Fishing, or Carp Fishing.  They also come in different lengths ranging from 10ft to 17ft.

General Purpose Float Rods

General purpose float rods are designed for all round float fishing situations.  They should be able to cope with a range of mainlines for different types of fishing from say 2lb for Roach and silver fish up to 5lb for Carp on commercial fisheries.
