Carp fishing is well known and popular in almost all parts of the world because its abundance is found almost everywhere. What makes carp fishing is a challenge that the carp is a freshwater fish and is a very hardy species. The carp can survive in difficult conditions, including polluted and standing water. Here are some techniques and tricks to catch carp if you have a carp fishing on the anvil.
How to catch carpc
There are basically three types of methods to catch carp. Here is a brief by all three methods when working on how to catch a big carp and catch of carp in general.
Method of corn bait
1. The placement and location of a likely place of a river is important. An ideal place would be around a large flat rock.
2. Now, let the position of his fishing line at an angle of about 45 to 50 degrees, the determination of the length of the hook.
3. As the method name suggests, you have to use the corn. So throw around a handful of corn all over the place where you have your line. This will attract the fish.
4. Once the fish bites and tugs on his rod, I would feel the movement of the rod.
5. After that, grab the stick right away and pull it in the opposite direction of movement of the fish.6. Continue to pull the fish while swimming a break out, but she pulls away. It will be difficult if the catch is large. 6. There would be resistance from the fish, so make sure the tire, fish, and then once you have felt abandoned, the reel in
Corn Casting Method
1. Again, this involves the use of corn. But for starters, have a rod appropriate facility. While creating the link from a hook on the end of the line, add a small weight to it.
2. Have a can of creamed corn at their disposal and then disperse in which water.3. Besides this, before dispensing the bait in the water, place two pieces of corn with it.
3. Make sure the hook, line and rod are very quiet so that a slight movement is sure to warn the tent as they are very sensitive to movement.
4. So, if a tent has eaten the corn, which means you've been cheated, immediately lifting the rod.
5. With the bar in the direction toward the sky, stay straight.
6. Do not let the fish go off the hook for the release of tension on the line. If the line becomes slack, the fish can break the hook.
7. Whatever you do, do not let the fish go around a stone or a rock or a log.
8. Again, reel the fish in when time ceases to resist.
Method of escape of fish
1. It is quite clear given the name of the method is concerned. It is a technique that is simply tiredness and depletion of fish.
2. Thus, after the initial strike that line as much as possible and then pull the line. This makes it easier to remove the fish is caught off guard below.
3. Now, the reel steadily and gradually. Move the rod tip from side to side when the fish looks tired. This will remove all the fish's ability to cut off their fins.
4. Do not hold fish by the mouth, especially the lips, and that could break the jaw of the fish. Ideally, you have to do is put a hand under the fish in front of the queue and then the other between the head and stomach.
5. Do not pinch, but make sure you hold it firmly.
ow to catch carp can be very difficult at times, unless you know the ins and outs of fishing, especially for carp. Another important thing is that appropriate gear. If you have these two in her pussy, well, then do not stop!

how to fish for carp in a slow, dirty creek?
im going to a little party and its by a creek and a pond. i plan on fishing for some carp, bass and if im lucky some pike. whats the setup with corn for carp? do i use a dropshot sinker or a bobber? is there any other good bait that i can use that i can find at my home?
with a dirty water the carp will be fishing with smell i carp fish at least 36 hours a week on a dirty water the best thing to do if u can is get a bed of bait on the bottom like hemp seed or rapeseed mix this with a bit of corn and this is your base bait not attach 2 corn to a hair rig on a size 2 or 4 hook and fish it on top of the bait bed with the carp now feeding u should not have a problem catching them this will also attract small fish which u can catch to use as bait for the pike
fishing for carp, how do they move across lake?
I mean when setting up is it best to setup in the deep end or shallow or in the middle, should i move at certain times in the day?
There are lots of factors that will have an effect and there is no perfect science to predicting where the fish will be. The following are useful pointers though.
Firstly, when you arrive at a water, look for evidence of where the fish are. Walk around a bit and look for signs of movement, bubbles coming to the surface where fish are feeding, tail swirls in the water etc etc. If you can find a spot like that, that’s where to fish.
In warm weather carp often follow the wind. That is because food falling onto the surface gets blown along and the carp go to where it accumulates. Warm weather also usually warms up the surface layers of water and the fish will therefore move downwind towards shallower water for the warmth. In really hot weather they often move right to the surface layers and you can see them cruising around. That is when people use floating baits, which can be really deadly.
In cold weather the fish do the opposite. The wind cools the water and so they head for the upwind end of the lake. They tend to stay in deep water and they are much less active.
In summer when the fish are mobile, stalking and moving around to single out individual fish can produce results, but be careful not to irritate other anglers. Most of the time though the best approach is to find the most likely looking spot and try to develop the swim by good accurate feeding. Casting to features works well. If there is an island in the lake the fish can often be found very close to the island banks. Don’t over feed in cold weather though. Fish appetites are a lot less voracious when it’s cold. In cold weather the fish often have short feeding spells and if you persevere with one spot you will often be rewarded with a fish even in the coldest of weather. Moving around in that kind of weather is much more likely to reduce your chances of sucess, not help them.
Hope that helps.
Carp fishing tips?!!?
i go carp fishng some because carp in my pond stay in the middle were i cant get to them but they come right up to the shore now they dont have mates they are single fish that seem to be making a nest o something because they just sit and blow dirt here and there and they dont bite bait they just run from it. anyone know what time of spawn it is for the and how catch them. p.s corn and bread dont work is there any mixture or something that does
it is probably not the bait that is wrong it is that they are focusing on spawning. You could try throwing some chum (could use corn) in the spot that you want to fish. If that doesn’t work you could try throwing your bait into the place that they are spawning but i think that they lay spread out not in one big bunch. If still no luck then just wait for later in the year and you can try some of these recipes that have worked for me very well (in the source section below). I found the Doughball Delight worked well. Hope this works for you!
How to make rice without ketchup for carp fishing?

how can i be more succesful when carp fishing at a shallow pond?
i go fishing for them every day from 5:00pm to 8:00pm but still cant seem to catch them any suggestion on how i can be more successfully NEED SUGGESTIONS thanks……..
Are their any Carp in the pond? Are you sure that they are Common Carp and not Grass Carp? If they are Grass Carp then you’ll have to snag them. Grass Carp are caught on extreme circumstances on pieces of bread on small hooks.
For Common Carp, I fish for them quite frequently. The best rig is a Carolina-rig, using a 1/8 or 1/4oz egg sinker for shallow water, a barrel swivel, and a 1′ leader of line. Use a #2 or #1 hook baited with bread or corn.
Carp fishing tips and tricks?
There has been a giant fish wading arounf my pond for a while. I rarely see him. Today I finanly saw that he is a carp.
He is at least 20lbs, and 36 inches long.
I don’t know much about catching carp so if anyone can give me some good tips on maybe how to catch this guy (altho I almost don’t want too, it’s like he’s so big you worship him rather than dare to catch him lol).

How to make bread balls for carp fishing?
What is the most effective way to make bread into bread balls for carp bait. Household items please. Thank you.
we would take bread & cornstarch and the water from a can of corn and mix it making balls large enough to cover your hook. Worked very well for us…
They do make special treble hooks that are made for dough baits like bread – they have a few coiled wires that help hold the bait on the hook.
Carp fishing help!!!?
i am going to try carp fishing with bread soon but i have a problem… i have no idea how to fish for carp! The carp are about 1 to 2 feet long. what hook size should i use? should i fish the bread at the top or on the bottom? Should i use a bobber? i need all the help i can get.
carp like catfish are bottom feeders and you would need a size 2 hook and fish the bread on the bottom. you can use a bobber if you like but really don’t need one if your watching your pole

Need some info on koi carp fish?
I just bought 20 gallon glass made aquarium and 2 yellow koi carps fish about 2 inchs long with some other aquarium stuff. I filled water in it, decorate my new tank and drop them in. They are happy swiming and playing. I bought food for them also named Six-Seven hi-protein. I am feeding them twice a day. One of my friend told me that these fish can get big upto a foot long if i kept them in a big space. I don’t have any plan for buying big tank in future. These fish have to live in this tank for ever. So, i am wondering to know that how big they can be in my 20 gallon tank? Does any one know?
Thanks
Its been already more than a week that i bought them. And i don’t think shopkeeper will refund my fish. I haven’t see any kind of problem on fish. They are very happy once i go infront of them they come at to me and ask for food. I can’t return them. Actually my question was ”How big they can get upto in my 20 gallon tank”?
did you buy them from a pet shop? they should not have sold you koi carp for a home tank, these are big outdoor pond fish.
sadly, unless you take them back to where you got them from I think you will soon have 2 dead fish.
pls take them back. i don’t think they will live very long in such a small tank.
UK anglers — explain fishing to us?
This question goes out to UK anglers or someone intimately familiar with fishing in the UK and Europe. James W’s recent question…

…have got me really curious about the various ways you Brit’s go fishing. Izaak Walton and J.R. Hartley are prophets to me, and I reverence the UK because it is generally held that modern fly fishing is descended from there, but I have only the most vague understanding of what you guys call coarse fishing, sport fishing, carp fishing, float fishing, the private clubs, how fishing permits work for you, the very long poles, feeders, etc., etc. For example, you politely call carp a “coarse fish,” but you seem to make a distinction between “carp fishing” and “coarse fishing.”
If someone could briefly but clearly explain the various types of fishing practiced in the UK and any other interesting info that might help a Yank understand, I would gladly give you 10 points.
I’m interested also.
The best boillie recipe or carp baits and secrets?
Im gonna start fishing for carp and catfish and i wanna know how to use boillies and the best recipe for carp and catfish boillies and how to make them.also does anyone know the best kind of hook that can work with a boillie and how you bait and hook a boillie descriptive hook kind.pretty much i wanna know everything about boillie recipes techniques and how to bait it.also if anyone has any extra information like best chum mixture or glup recipes or any extra mixes please tell me and let me know.
Not a boilie….but a better bait and easier to make…..real simple.Use OATMEAL flavored baby cereal, and a little water to make a dough. (You will have to really work the cereal, and knead it well, but it WILL stick together and form a dough, just keep at it. The dough melts slowly, and “milks” through the water.Use a #6 treble hook,if trebles are legal in your area. When inserting the hook, push The SHANK of the hook into the bait, and all three ponits will be inside the bait. This bait is great, and cheap to make. I have used it since I was a kid. Dont be afraid to experiment with extra flavors,i.e.,creme soda, vanilla, anise, etc. But use only oatmeal flavor cereal.
Fishing carp with corn on the hook?
Can someone show me a photo or anything with how you put corn on your hook?
Ive been fishing for almost a week now, and I get tons of line action but the carp never hook on.
I usually fish at 6pm – 9pm, and I get about 3-4 bites an hour, but the fish never hook themselves.
Ive tried using only 1 -2 pieces of corn on the hook (using #6 hooks), Ive tried covering the entire hook, and ive tried covering only half the hook.. still always the same! The past few days I rigged up some of those hair line rigs while leaving the hook naked, and nothing, same action. Ive tried several different flurocarbon, mono and braided leaders. I even tried using some marshmellow bait and dough bait; and even combining it all together. (I usually toss a handfull of bait and fish that area)
These fish are tempting me to toss a few grenades in there.. Im probably gonna sound crazy for this idea, but im thinking about attatching a bobber 5 – 8 inches away from the hook so it dangles down underwater off of the ground; that way they go up to bite and then down possibly hooking themselves better??
The same happens to me. I use a hook and a good size sinker on a leader because I fish for carp in a river. I put enough corn to cover the hook almost completely, but I use a bigger hook. I’m not sure what size I’ve always known them as aberdine (I’m not sure if that’s the correct spelling) hooks. I’ve caught a few carp about a foot long and they just bite and swim off. I’ve seen carp jump all day and just picking at the corn too. Try opening up the drag and let them run for a bit then tighten the drag and set.
How long does it take for scrub worms to lay eggs then hatch the eggs?
i want to start a worm farm and scrub worm are so expensive ($8 for 15). i currently only have about 10 or so in there and want to know how long it will be until i can see tiny baby ones. I use them for fishing to catch carp and am trying to get rid of them in my local river that has a few redfin in it. Im basically trying with a couple of mates to over fish carp (if thats possible)
Thanks in advance
hope to be able to choose a best answer in the next 24-48 hours
Here is a site talking about worm farms: http://www.akff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9063 A little more than half way down the article “Sandshark” talks about it taking about 6 weeks to double the population. Pretty good site.
Here is another that explains how to set up a scrubbie worm farm: http://www.tacklebox.com.au/forums/fishing-general-chat/4409-scrub-worms-homemade-worm-farm.html
How to treat cloudy eye in carp fish?
I have a pond with 4 carps in it. Basically, sometime ago, my dad brought in a couple of baby kois and another carp ( it was badly, badly infected with ich, but dad passed the ‘white’ as its natural colour somehow ), and before i knew it, every other fish in the pond had the same issue, except one of the carps. So yeah, all died but that one carp, which i constantly kept treating for ich. Then, i brought in two more healthy carps, and for nearly 3 years they were perfectly fine, active, healthy and brightly coloured. Now, few months back, one of the carps (the old survivor) got a cloudy eye out of nowhere, but the cloudiness remained on that one for sometime, although, from observation, it seemed to be blind at that eye ( btw, that eye never moved ). This remained as it is for a few more months( though i kept treating it with the respective medicine for cloudiness), till today, when suddenly, the other eye got cloudy and another carp has both its eyes cloudy as well…The pond is cleaned regularly every 3 weeks, and had its last cleaning just last week. Looking closer, the ‘old survivor’ carp, has a red circle around its eyes (looks like a blood vessel or something). Now, both sick carps are not even eating ( i doubt they even saw the fish food ). Is this some form of ich again, or cloudiness?Need some help here, what should i do? I don’t want to lose any of them, even the third fine looking carp.
I’d appreciate any help and advice! Pet shops here are useless, stuff mostly comes from china and the pet store people barely know what is it for, or what it contains. Not much pet fish enthusiasts around here too. If its got issues, they just throw it out :/ .Anyway, thanks a million for your help!!
Usually, cloudy eye is caused due to poor water quality. reating this condition requires an investigation of water quality. Once the water quality is high enough, the fish will usually recover by them selves within 1-2 weeks.
n increase in parasites in the aquarium is the most common cause but severe stress, old age, or malnutrition can all lead to this condition.
You can make use of pond salt to treat cloudy eye disease. Apart from pond salt, Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Melafix, Tetramedica Contraspot and Waterlife Myxazin are also used to treat cloudy eye.
If you need detailed information, make use of http://www.oscarfishlover.com/cloudy-eyes

Carp Fishing Can I Use This Birdseed?
Well ive got a big 2kg bag of this birdseed it has ; maize, Pinhead Oat, Split Peas, Black Sunflowers, Suet, Wheat, Rowan and Neger seads is there anything in there which isnt good for carp and if there isnt how can i prepare this to use it has lose feed in a spod mix ?
Thanks
i dont really know if you can maybe throw a few handfulls out then toss a dry fly out into it so that if a carp sucks the seed it may accidentaly suck your dry fly in as well. thats how i would try fly fishing
but for spin fishing i dont think you could you could try spearing a few seeds and such with a hook but i doubt it will work. just try some canned sweet corn
How do you tell if a carp is male or female??
When I go fishing for carp they are they because they are spawning. Does anyone know how to tell if they are male or female?????
Look at their ventral fin area: two means female; one means male.
How do I catch a carp?
I fish for carp in a small pond behind some condos. There common carp. They are so sensitive to movement and they sit along the edge. People say there bottom feeders, but once in a while they swim right in front of me. I use a bobber and a j hook and corn for bait .
i like bobs answers for the most part but another thing to do is if there is a cotton tree fish underneath it with a white lure tha tlooks like cotton for some reason carp like munching cotton.
try worms with worms you will also catch any other fish that are in there but carp like worms as well
also try a green tube jig like a bright neon green tube for some reason they fall in love with these things
oh and dont forget if you flyfish there are flys made JUST for carp but im not sure what they imitate
How do tell the difference between a male and female common carp ?
I love fishing carp and I catch plentiful and I feel as if I’m catching an unfair share so I want to release the females for more reproduction. I fish at glen helen regional park in California
NO, No, no…
do not release them. you are catching nowhere NEAR your fair share. your neighbors definitely need some, that kid down the bank wants to take one home as well as those guys on the other side of the lake.
the very best way to tell is to slice the carp open and gut it. if it has an egg skein in it that is filled with approximately three million eggs, it is/was a female. if it has a long piece in it that looks like a white liver, it is/was a male.
l guess you already knew that and wanted a way to tell without cutting them.
don’t worry about wiping out the carp. the more you catch, the bigger service you are doing to the rest of the fish. there is no way you are going to dent the carp population.
take ‘em home. give ‘em away. bury them in the garden. feed ‘em to the raccoons and buzzards.
don’t throw them back!

There are several ways to make bread paste. The most common being the reduction of the bread to a paste with the use of a muslin cloth and a lot of soaking and squeezing, at the end of your efforts you will get a sloppy mess that, depending on your skill as a bait maker, will stay on your hook with varying levels of success
the site will walk you through it.

Anyone like to fish for Carp?
I was fishing at this lake when this man came up to me and told me a secret about catching huge Carp! He told me to use a mixture of Strawberry Jello with wheaties, canned corn and dried mashed potatoes. I thought he was nuts! But after I saw him catch one I decided to try it! At first I found it was hard to keep on the hook, but eventually I got it to work. I’ve found carp to be extremely easy to catch with this bait! I’ve caught several 20 to 30 pound carp using this method! I’ve also lost a couple of fishing poles because I couldn’t get the bait clicker set before the other pole went into the water! It would be nice if people would start fishing for carp more often. Cause they are bad for the environment. The destroy gamefish habitat. I hate to kill anything, but the Carp is not a naitive species of North America. They croud out the other fish and pose a serious environmental hazard. I have heard that if you know how to clean them they can be very good to eat!
I live along the New River in West Virginia and the river is extremely infested with carp. When the catfish and bass ain’t biting I usually throw on that home made bait that you are talking about ( except I usually use Shredded Wheat instead of Wheaties) and cat lots of huge carp ( sometimes up to 35lbs.). As for eating carp they, they don’t really taste that bad. The secret is that when you clean them you have to cut the dark strip off of their back (you will see what I mean when you fillet one).
is it dangerous to go carp fishing in a thunder storm?
Going for a 36 hour bivvy session at my local lake and theres a 20% chance of a thunder storm. Regardless how dangerous it is im still going due to me wanting to go quite badly as i havnt been for a month now : /.
Just fill your pockets with marshmallows so the rescue team has something fun to do as they treat your burns, Good luck!
Why do people fish for carp?
Is it enjoyable i’ve just never got to try it. How would you carp fish I’ve only caught one in my life I know the basics but I’ve never tried
It’s very enjoyable. Especially when you catch a huge one from a float tube on 8 pound line and the sumbitch pulls you around for 2 1/2 hours. Carp fishing is becoming extremely popular in the U.S. Of course, it will never be as popular as BASS FISHING, but to the die-hard carp angler, but it is very expensive.
A month or so ago, there were a couple guys fishing my local lake. One of the guys named Zolt had two 13 foot specialized carbon-fiber carp rods that he paid a couple hundred bucks apiece for. His Shimano Japanese Domestic Market Bait Runners were another $250 apiece. The bite alarms he used were about $150 apiece. And the “rod pod” was another $100. So overall, the guy with the funny accent alone had $1300 racked up in the basic stuff. He was using 20 pound PowerPro braided line, and that stuff isn’t cheap, either
How do you catch carp with bread?
When surface fishing for carp with bread flake or crust, I always get much smaller carp nibbling and swirling around it and by then my bread has come off the hook. I don’t want to catch these carp as they are too small to even swallow the piece of bread. How can I stop the bread coming off for when a bigger fish comes?
What is imitation bread and if it is good for fishing, how do I use it?
As a regular match fisherman surface fishing can be devasting…try round dog biscuits either drilled and hair rigged or on a pellet band once casted out catapult free offerings close to your casted bait, carp are inquisitive by nature and the noise of the bait splashes brings them toward your bait, this method is best used on warm/hot days when carp like to raise up in the water….
What is a good recipe for preparing freshly caught carp for gefilte fish?
If carp are to be utilized then they must be prepared for consumption. Does anyone know how to clean and prepare carp for food?
The only way I’ve ever tried carp is smoked. Filet the carp, and throw the fillets into a smoker. It’s very good actually.
Fishing a slow moving creek for carp?
I’m going to fish for carp and redhorse in a creek tomorrow. It leads into a small lake that holds the standard fish found in all lakes.I don’t know the exact depth.Any recommendations on presentation or tips on how to hook up with more fish?
Good answer, above.
You don’t need very large capacity of line if you are just fishing in a creek. 10-14 lb. test should do the trick. (That’s what i use.) And if you have a low price range for you’re equipment, get a Zebco 33 spincast reel, and an Ugly Stik rod. That should all cost about 55 bucks. And if you want a spinning reel, the Mitchell 300 is a good reel, and it isn’t too bad on the wallet. Your rod should be 6’6, preferably. And medium-heavy action rod should do fine. Just pick up some split-shots for about 1 buck at Wal-Mart, and that can put the bait on the bottom. (Water Gremlin is the brand sinker, there is others but they are good and cheap.) For bait, nightcrawlers will catch carp and redhorse. But, corn and homemade doughball for carp works good too. Just throw out the bait, and let it set, and wait for the bite. Carp are hard fighters, too. So, it will be real fun when you hook one. Hey, i know a pretty lot about fishing for carp, and if you need anymore help just send me an e-mail with your Q’s.
Hope i helped ya out.
Can anyone give me an address or an exact location to see the carp in Lake Mead in Nevada?
I know the carp are in Lake Mead, but there are so many different sites at lake mead I don’t know which one exactly has the fish. I have seen youtube videos of tons of fish/carp coming to the surface but no videos say how to get there. I have gone to the national parks website for lake mead and it does not mention where to go. can anyone get me an address or exact location of the carp. I need it for this upcoming weekend. Thank you
The fish go where they want, but carp like to eat what people throw in (like popcorn) and the Marina’s have food stands so that is where you might find the carp. They normally are at the bottom of the lake unless people are throwing in food.
Smoking carp fish?
Please list details of how it is done.
I would reallly like to try it for the first time tonight, but I do not know how to prepare it. thanks!
To smoke carp, try the following:
• Remove scales but retain skin when cleaning, regardless of how you clean them.
• Cure fish fillets, halves, or chunks for 3-4 hours in a brine solution made from 1 cup of coarse canning salt and ¼ cup of brown sugar per gallon of water.
• Remove fish from solution, damp try with a paper towel, and allow to air dry overnight in the refrigerator.
• Rub fish with vegetable oil and place on smoker racks skin-side down.
• Smoke at 200oF for 4-6 hours, checking frequently to avoid drying fish out.
Good Luck;)
How would you fish for grass carp?
There’s a couple big grass carp in a pond close to me and my friend and I have a bet going that I can’t catch them. I’ve read you can but don’t know what bait to use or where to put it ( deep, shallow). Also if I do catch one how do you unhook it. Thanks
Grass carp are vegetarians. They feed mostly on grass and fruits. Try putting a cherry tomatoes or cherries, strawberries on a size 12 hook.

well you want to make a Bollie…you can make one by cooking up eggs, cereal, peanut butter, flour and all sorts of odd things. Just check “Carp Bollies” on google and you should find some awesome recipies. Carp fishing takes patience, you’ll see guys waiting for hours with 3 poles all casted out in 3 different directions off the bank. Also, its hard to always target where the carp are, I’ve seen many Carp on one side of the lake one day, then the next I didn’t see any. With Carp though, you want to fish off the bottom. I suggest at least having 2 poles (better three) and letting one of those homemade bollies sit on the floor of the body of water…then crack open a beer a wait to see if its your lucky day, Carp can be difficult to catch.
What price should I ask for my koi fish?
I’m hoping to sell around 20 koi carp fish on ebay. They are all various sizes and colours;red, white, black, silver, from around 5 inches to 2 feet. I don’t know what specific varieties they are though.
- How should I list them? (separately or as 1 lot)
- What should my starting price be?
- Should I put a reserve on them and if so, what should it be?
the 2′ ones do not sell for anything less than $120, even if they are horrible quality and just the blandest koi ever their size alone warrants big bucks..
i agree with posting some pictures. either here, in an email, or when you sell the fish (which people do quite often on ebay, but it’s usually pick-up only)
how do you make carp bait?
I FISH CARP TOURNAMENTS @ LOCAL LAKES.LOOKING FOR SOME IDEAS AS HOW TO CATCH THE CARP.
I’m glad to see a fellow Carp fisherman every once in a while! I make a kind of dough-bait out of bread, peanut butter, maple syrup, & cinnamon. I start out with a big bowl, and a can of nonstick cooking spray such as Pam. Spray the bowls sides and bottom with the cooking spray. Lay down 2-pieces of light bread in the bottom of the bowl, then on top of the bread, put a large scoop or two of peanut butter. Add some maple syrup, just about one BIG squirt. Now put another piece of bread or two on top of that, along with a bunch of cinnamon.
“Mold” the bait with your bare hands until it is turned into a large ball. More bread can be added if the bait came out too “wet” or “mushy”. More cinnamon can be added if the baits smell is not strong enough. More syrup or a little bit of water can be added if the bait is too dry. You want it to be at a Play-Doe consistency.
I use this bait with a #4 Eagle Claw baitholder hook.
how do i fish for carp?
ive been trying to catch these carp in a pond by my house for years and ive tried thousands of bait…didnt work, i tried different times… didnt work. maybe its my style of trying to catch um?? please help me!!!
According to my observation, the most common mistake people make during carp fishing is that they cast too far. Way too many people like to launch their rigs out as far as they could without knowing where the fish are. At many locations, carp swim the shallows a lot more frequently than many would believe.
Another common mistake is many would only fish at locations where they could see carp cruising close to the surface. Many would only cast out to spots where they saw carp jump. Yes, it is certain that they are in the area. But seeing them cruising or jumping around the area doesn’t necessary mean that they will feed around the area. You have to fish at spots where they feed not where they play (or mate).
Bait is important when it comes to carp fishing. There are so many working bait recipes out there and none of them will work unless you got lucky or learned “when” to use them. The bait for colder months and warmer months are different. The bait for warmer months and very hot months could be different. Generally speaking, oily baits work better during warm/hot days. Baits with heavy scents tend to work on smaller carp better; bigger ones will be attracted to the area, but they won’t necessary take the bait. Keep in mind, overly complicated baits aren’t necessary good baits. Try to avoid baits with too much artificial scents.
Carp could be very light biters. Smaller or inexperienced ones will inhale you bait. Older (wiser), bigger carp usually bite MUCH lighter than young ones. Bites from an inch long bluegill WILL be easier to detect than bites from a seasoned veteran lunker carp. Many carp will drop your bait as soon as they detect any kind of resistance from your line and/or rod. Light lines, light sinkers and light rods (especially graphite rods) will help. Carp are not line shy but many carp anglers in the US use nothing but ultra-light tackles because of this.

carp fishing help??????
well i been trying to fish carps for about a month now and no luck at all….i use corn only and i don’t really know what to use because i don’t wanna spend alot of money on baits for carp if they don’t work like corn…i seen carp baits but i don’t know if will work though…anyone know how to make or get a good carp bait that any carp will bite when they see it?
instead of corn, i reccomend you use a cornmeal recipe or maybe a piece of bread sunken to the bottom. Never try to use those carp baits, they suck.
3 questions about late fall carp fishing (freshwater lake)?
1. what can i use for a substitute…do i even need one?
2. Late fall carp lures/bait recommendations?
3. substitute for a live well?.. if i were to use a kayak what would i use?
ps: i would stay on shore with the kayak untill i have to leave… how would i bring the carp with me if i dont have a live well on the kayak???
thanks
If you can go to your local Dollar Store and get a mesh laundry bag,a big one with a drawstring closure ,and attach that to the kayak when you get ready to leave for home it will suffice for transporting the fish alive and intact for the trip back.make sure to tie it tight with a knot at the opening so the fish won’t swim out,and get away. The bait is the same you use at any other time, your favorite doughbait,or corn or bread, whatever works for you the rest of the year, just have more patience,as the cooler water makes them sluggish nd slower to move to find your offering.
How to fish for carp in a big lake?
It’s a 590 acre lake in IL (Busse Lake).I only have my tackle that I use for bass fishing.I’m just looking to find where the carp hang out in a lake this size. What should I be looking for?
They are in the deep part of the lake around sunken trees and large sunken rocks. Find a good place to bank fish where no one else is fishing and set-up your rods there. Just use some of your heavier bass rods and reels for carp. Use a size 2 bait holder hook. Rigging your line for carp is all in preference. I just crimp on a big split shot to put my bait on the bottom. I use dough ball. It is made out of peanut butter, maple syrup, bread, and cinnamon. Works pretty good. I recommend you trying it. If you don’t want to make dough ball you can use bread. It works good too.
What is the best tackle for carp fishing?
I mean like what weight line, what size hook, what bait is best, how deep to fish, how much weight. I need to know all that so i can catch some carp. Im an amateur fishermen and i don’t have things like bite alarms.
i dunno about other people but i always use my 7ft medium rod with 12 lb line on it, usually a 2 circle hook or a 2 treble hook, for weight from 1/2 oz to 2 ounces depending on the current. canned corn, cornmeal, hotdogs, any kind of sweet dough ball. i usually just use flour cornmeal vanilla and sugar for my dough balls, i cant tell you how deep or anything because i dont know where you fish, oh the treble hooks make it much easier for the dough balls to stay put. you dont need bite alarms, but some bells are nice if youre going for a ‘have a beer in the shade type fishing’ just make sure you dont try to rush the carp in they usually fight for a while the bigger ones anyways
how much would it be to get me started on carp fishing?
can you just give me the general cost for each of the following items:
1. Ledgering Carp Rod
2. Bait runner reel
3. Electric bite alarm
4. Rod Pod
anything i have missed out? got basic tackle, mat, net, chair and baits are all sorted.
you dont need that crap all i use is my normal rod meant for bass whatever bait i want and instead of waisting money i put my rod leaning on a branch and at the top of my rod i put a christmas bell when the rod tip moves it rings
What fish nibble your feet to clean them?
Ive heard from friends, that people in town have been using fish to clean there feet, from dead skin, athletes foot, etc.Think they are small carp fish, just wondered what fish are they exactly. And what it does exactly, and how much it cost for the fish as well and where would you get them from, thanks alot
Mostly it’s Garra rufa, or a Garra species, that’s used for this procedure.
HOWEVER, if you have a low immune system you can get all sorts of nasty things from the tanks and the fish, some quite serious too.
There are some serious ethical issues too. The tanks they are kept in are vastly overstocked and they are starved in order to “feed” on feet. Dead skin is NOT a good diet for them and in fact offers them no sustenance, a bit like you living on tissue paper. Garra rufa in particular should get about 6″ long and live several years. Their lifespan from “stockists” to these beauty places are told a mere FOUR WEEKS!! That’s like killing kittens.
They also are only fixing a symptom temporarily by gnawing off some dead skin, they will NOT solve skin problems.
So you do still want fish nibbling at your toes?
i have a fishtank and some of the fish seem to be scraping themselves on the gravel?
it has only been set up for just over a week-it is 2 foot and i’m keeping coldwater fish. a few goldfish, 2 carp, a catfish and a couple of tiny fish. the carp and the tiny fish seem to be scraping themselves across the gravel and the ornament. what can this be? and how to treat?
its called “flashing” and fish do it because they are uncomfortable or itchy – this is from infection in the water or bad water conditions.
check the temp and PH – each species will need different conditions.
PH for goldfish/carp = 7
temp = 55 – 70F
i would need to know the species of the smaller fish and catfish to tell you what PH and temp they need.
if water conditions are normal, then treat the tank for bacterial infections, then fungal infections.
if parasites appear, obviously, treat the tank for those (they can be tiny on the fish, they might look like fungus).
get medications for all things from your local petshop.
p.s. ICH (not “ick”) is NOT an algae like another poster said, its a parasite.

i want to try carp fishing?
whats the best time of day to fish for them what are good baits any tips on personal expeirence on how to catch one
nice catch the wormist thanks for the pic
carp are bottom feeders that scavage for food, theres not really a best time during the day to catch carp but i feel late evning and on into the night is prime time for me, carp have a very soft mouth that has no teeth the suck on the bottom of the pond, river, and/or lake. I have used many types of bait for carp and just fishing with a few peices of corn is not the way that we do carp fishing around here (north carolina), we tournament fish for carp in nice size ponds around here and heres the setup that most of us use to catch carp.
First i start off with a 3 way swivel (has 3 open rings and its shaped like a triangle), i tie one end of the swivel off to my line and then i take two 1/0 size hook that are prefitted with leaders and put each one of them threw each one of the rings on the swivel, now when you hold your line up you have 2 hooks side by side. next i take a corn pop or sugar pop and put one on each hook(helps the hook float up a little bit off the floor of the pond) then its on to your bait( see below).
ok theres many types of carp bait to use when fishin for em, the easyiest i have found to make and use is instant grits and a type of jello powder (flavour of jello is your choice or what is in season at that time), ok once you have the contents that you need these are the mixing intructions(see below)
take a family box of instant grits and pour into a bucket, take your jello powder and pour in with the grits, take water from the pond or where ever you can find it and pour the water in slowly while taking your hand and fluffing the grits around till it gets nice and fluffy like cotton but dont mix too much water in with it because it will make the grits pack together too tight and will not crumble under water. next take one of your hooks with the pop on it and grab a small hand full of grits and place the hook in the middle of your pile of grits and pack the grits around the hook ( not too tight or it will fail to crumble in the water), you can put t2 grit balls or just one depends on your style, then through the dough out into the water and let it sink to the bottom and it should crumble and the pop should float out of the dough a little bit.
sorry i wrote so much but it takes a while to explain how to fix the dough but is very easy to do.
ice fishing in NY need some help?
my friends and i are big on fishing during the summer time. there is a resivoir right behind our houses so during the summer, we go fishing alot. the biggest fish i have seen get pulled out of there was about 2 feet bass. there are also a lot of carp. we want to try ice fishing. these are the fish that we catch in the summer, we go over to a big cove were there are many big and small fish
-carp
-bass
-pirch
-sunny’s
-and occasionaly pumpkinseeds
those are the fish that we catch in the summer. what one of these fish survives through the winter and during the winter do they move into deeper waters? or can we still catch them in the coves? our current set up for winter fishing is a sinker rig, with 1 hook about 1 foot above the sinking weight. on the hook we used tightly compressed bread balls to try and catch somthing. we didnt get anything yet. any tips on how to ice fish? and how is a fish’s living habitat changed during the cold months? thanks for all the help!
Hey Greg,
Sounds like you’re headed out to have some fun. Let’s see if I can help.
I have never fished in New York, but I fish a ton in my home state of Idaho. Plenty of ice fishing opportunities here.
Are there any trout in the reservoir you fish? If so, you should try to catch them in winter instead of the other fish you mentioned cause they are better adapted for cold water. If not, your next best bet would be to try and catch the perch. However, I wouldn’t use bread balls like you mentioned. Instead try using a small jig tipped with a meal worm or part of an earthworm.
I’m not super familiar with carp, but I know the bass, sunfish, and pumpkinseeds will be difficult to catch in the winter. There’s a lake I fish around here that has trout, bass, crappie, and sunfish in it. You’ll catch a lot of bass, crappie, and sunfish during the summer, but in the winter you very rarely catch any of those. They are better adapted to warmer waters so in winter they get super sluggish and don’t feed actively.
Obviously they still have to eat occasionally to survive, but they won’t be active like trout will be in the winter. In general, cold water will make fish feed less and less aggressively. All those species of fish will survive over the winter as long as the lake is deep enough to keep from freezing solid or getting depleted of oxygen.
You’ll have to experiment fishing both deep and shallow areas of the lake until you can find the fish. Also, don’t always fish on the bottom. As winter wears on, the bottom layers in a lake get depleted of oxygen. Thus, the fish have to move up higher in the water column. Sometimes you’ll catch them just a foot or so beneath the ice.
So to summarize, I would focus on catching perch. I would also use a jig and meal worm combination instead of bread balls. A jig and meal worm will also work for bass and sunfish although I wouldn’t expect to catch too many of those over the winter.
Hope that helps!
why do the fat headed yanks treat carp as being trash fish, but revere bass.?
went fishing for carp while on holiday in america, and asked where i should be heading to try for carp in the local tackle shop, the response i got wasn’t exactly helpfull, seems unless they are flicking a spinner about with a 4 foot rod they dont want to know. how can a 2lb bass compare to a 50lb+ carp. if thats what you want to catch fine. but don’t give someone a load of grief for trying to catch something different. and believe me i’ve fished all over the world, yanks are not the most advanced anglers, in fact your far from it.
Fishing for trashy fish like carp from a $40,000 bass boat does seem like a waste of time. Especially when a good tourney angler can win thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars by catching bass. Maybe it’s just me but the sport of sitting on a bank with a can of corn or some dough balls and hair rigs seems rather apathetic. Sure a carp will stretch your string, but even a decent catfish offers a far better fight and much better taste than some old carp. I’ll take a 2 lb bass any day over ten 50 lb trashy carp.
Any of you that I may have offended, let me show my respect by offering a Carp recipe.
1) Catch a Carp.
2) Nail Carp to board.
3) Smear lemon, butter and seasoning over it all.
4) Cook at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
5) Remove nails from Carp & board.
6) Throw away Carp.
7) Eat the board.
BTW…Nobody uses a 4 foot rod for bass fishing because you can’t get enough leverage against it while fighting a spirited 2 lb bass. Especially a smallmouth bass.
Best of luck and enjoy your Carp fishing future.
How many carp or tench can be stocked into a lake per acre?
I was just wondering how many fish (carp or tench) could potentially be stocked into a body of water. For example into a body of water around 1 Acre ranging from 1 feet to 5 feet in depth?
wow! one is like, way too many!
